The owners loved the property and many aspects of the original house. But dated finishes and a desire for radiant heat (and other systems upgrades in a harsh climate) led to this extensive renovation.

This fireplace was quite a challenge. Teton County has strict rules about open fireplaces, but the owners had their hearts set on a huge fireplace with open seating on three sides. By opting for gas, we were able to meet the design and safety brief. We also worked closely with fireplace expert Walter Moberg. The result is a 6-foot-long, 18-inch-high flame with whisper-quiet extraction via a waxed, blackened steel hood.

We designed cabinetry and fixed finishes with an eye to melding materials in surprising ways. Floating wood nightstands are wrapped with thin sheets of metal, as is the headboard in the master bedroom. All cabinetry was custom designed by Michael Howells and fabricated by Jaxon Ching and his team at Willow Creek Woodworks.

In a house with crisp lines and ample use of steel finishes, we took care to add natural materials in key places, such as this leather-wrapped pull at the front door.
